Future Cowboys: This Week's Playoff Results

GoPokes.com has been tracking the progress of the high school football players who have verbally committed to signed with Oklahoma State next February. The future Cowboys were 7-7 in playoff games played this Friday and Saturday.

SATURDAY'S GAMES
CHRIS DINKINS, S (6-4, 290)
Lee (Tyler, Texas) HS Red Raiders
Dinkins led the Raiders to their fifth consecutive victory – after beginning the season 1-5 – with 147 rushing yards and a touchdown and he also caught a scoring pass in Lee's 23-17 victory over Garland in Saturday's Class 5A Division I Region II playoff game at Corsciana. Dinkins caught a 5-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to pull the Raider within 17-15, and then his 7-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter proved to be the game winner.

JUSTIN GILBERT, WR (6-0, 178)
Huntsville (Texas) HS Hornets
Gilbert ran for a touchdown and caught a TD pass but it wasn't enough as Beaumont Central rallied for a 28-24 victory over Huntsville on Saturday in a Class 4A Division I playoff game. Gilbert rushed for 75 yards on 18 carries, including a 23-yard TD run on the first play of the second quarter, and passed for another 74 yards.

JACOB JENKINS, OL (6-3, 260) Gilmer (Texas) HS Buckeyes
The No. 1-ranked Gilmer Buckeyes (12-0) defeated Waco La Vega 44-16 on Saturday in a Class 3A Division I Region III playoff game, at Mesquite's Memorial Stadium.

SHAUN LEWIS, LB (6-1, 207)
Hightower (Fort Bend, Texas) HS Hurricanes
Hightower's season came to an end with a 26-21 loss to Beaumont West Brook on Saturday in a Class 3A Division I Region III playoff game at Mesquite's Memorial Stadium. The Hurricanes, 11-1, were driving for what appeared to be the winning touchdown when a pass was intercepted at the 15-yard line with less than 40 seconds to play

MONTRA NELSON, WR (6-3, 215)
Bowie (Arlington, Texas) HS Volunteers
Nelson caught two passes, including a 23-yard touchdown, as Arlington Bowie rolled to an easy 49-7 victory over El Paso Montwood to advance to a Class 5A Division II regional semifinal game.

NATE SORENSON, QB (6-3, 200)
Texas (Texarkana, Texas) HS Tigers
Sorenson was 15-of-30 passing for 200 yards with one interception (which was returned 91 yards for a touchdown), and also ran for 38 yards and a TD but it wasn't enough as his high school football career came to an end with a 35-21 loss to Waxahachie on Saturday.

John Tyler (Tyler, Texas) HS Lions
The Lions scored with 57 seconds remaining to capture a thrilling 53-46 victory over Richardson Lake Highlands on Friday night. John Tyler High rolled up 598 yards of offense, including 405 and four touchdowns from quarterback Jeremy Johnson, while Lake Highlands finished with 511 total yards.

Arp (Texas) HS Tigers
Cooper rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries as the No. 1-ranked Class 2A Tigers advanced to the state quarterfinals for the third year in a row with a 14-7 victory over Jefferson on Friday night. Cooper scored on a 1-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

DEVIN HEDGEPETH, CB (6-0, 190)
Derby (Kan.) HS Panthers
Hedgepeth accounted for 96 total yards – 29 rushing and 67 on seven pass receptions – but the Panthers were stopped on a fourth-and-goal play from the 2-yard line with 13 seconds left in Friday night's 21-16 loss to Wichita Heights in a Class 6A semifinal playoff game.

KEVIN JOHNSON, WR (6-2, 200)
Cypress Ridge (Houston) HS Rams
Johnson and his Cy Ridge teammates suffered a 24-14 loss to Klein in a second-round Class 5A Division II playoff game Friday night. The Rams finish the season 7-5.

DAN KOENIG, OL (6-6, 260)
Cape Coral (Fla.) HS Seahawks
The Seahawks rolled up 341 total yards of offense and the defense forced five turnovers in a 27-0 shutout of Bradenton Lakewood Ranch in a first-round playoff game Friday night.

CALEB LAVEY, LB (6-3, 210)
Celina (Texas) HS Bobcats
Lavey and the defense did its job by only allowing 69 total yards and three first downs but a ut return for a touchdown and a 60-yard interception return set up a short field goal as Kenneland ended Celina's season with a 10-6 victory on Friday night. Lavey recovered a fumble in his final high school game.

North Shore (Galena Park, Texas) HS Mustangs
North Shore's season came to an end with Friday night's 7-3 loss to Brazoswood at Galena Park ISD Stadium.
