Recruiting: Collins Talks Championship Run

You've been reading a lot lately on Go Pokes about recent Oklahoma State commitment Davidell Collins out of Class 2A powerhouse Bearden, Ark. There are a couple of reasons. One is that Bearden is on a "take no prisoners" run through the Arkansas Class 2A playoffs and the other is that I personally think Oklahoma State got a massive steal in picking up the 6-6, 254-pound, two-way star.

Collins is seemingly equally adept at stopping opposing running backs, blocking out the sun or the lights for opposing quarterbacks, or pancake blocking opposing defenders. He is part of a dominating team that has won their playoff games by a combined score of 196-to-27 after the semifinal win over Spring Hill Friday night 40-6.

"The game went really good," said Collins. "Our defense really stepped up and we scored a defensive touchdown and picked off two passes and also recovered a fumble."

Asked if he was involved in any of that turnover action, he replied. "I forced one of the interceptions," said Collins proudly. "I came off the edge with a good rush. I was all over the quarterback all night, but on this one I actually timed it where I hit him as he was releasing the ball and it went straight to one of my guys for the interception."

On offense, Collins said he had a good night blocking for good friend Ricky Brown, who he said finished with a pair of touchdown runs.

Once again, Collins committed to the Cowboys after taking in the win over Texas Tech. He had scholarship offers from Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, and Arkansas State, along with recruiting interest from Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas Tech.

Collins has one more week in his Bearden football career as he and his teammates prepare for a date next Saturday in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium against Junction City in the 2A state championship game.
