Recruiting: Shaun Lewis A Finalist For Award

Oklahoma State has a recent history of having some of the top players honored at the end of the season by the Houston Touchdown Club on its list of recruiting commitments. That was the case again Wednesday night at the Houston Touchdown Club Annual Awards Banquet at the J.W. Marriott Hotel as Shaun Lewis of Fort Bend (Hightower) was one of the finalists for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

This season Lewis had 97 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, five sacks, two fumbles recovered, and an interception.

The Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Santa Fe's Shane Sobnosky, who helped his team to the playoffs and finished with 102 total tackles and 21 sacks.

"The banquet was an awesome event," said the 6-0, 205-pound Lewis, who is as fast of a linebacker as you will find. "They had good speakers there and it was really a good event, a big deal."

Lewis made his official visit to Oklahoma State way back at the start of the season when he and his parents made the trip to Stillwater for the Georgia game.

Lewis said he is very happy and committed to Oklahoma State. In fact, here is what he said his plans are now that football is over at Hightower. "I am back to training and my goal is to get myself ready to make an immediate impact at Oklahoma State," said Lewis.

The Offensive Player of the Year at the banquet was Galena Park North Shore offensive lineman Shane Hopkins. The Coach of the Year was Katy Cinco Ranch head coach Don Clayton.
