Recruiting: Tre Porter Says It's Wait and See

We finally touched base with cornerback and all-purpose offensive weapon Tre'Vante Porter of Midwest City (Carl Albert), Okla. Porter, who helped the Titans to the Class 5A state championship this fall and is a unanimous All-State honoree, committed early this fall to Texas Tech over Oklahoma State and several other schools. Has he had a change of heart since this week's firing of Mike Leach?

In my opinion, Porter is one of the top two players I personally saw play this season in Oklahoma high school football. He is currently playing basketball and spoke to us during a break in hoops practice.

The 6-0, 185-pound speedster told us he has heard from Texas Tech since the termination of head coach Mike Leach.

"I heard from the assistant coach recruiting me and he told me there is a good chance that the assistant head coach (defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil) is going to get the job," said Porter of his communication with Tech. "If that happens there is a good chance that I will stay there with Texas Tech."

Porter finshed this past season with 115 tackles and two interceptions on defense. On offense he rushed for 665 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught passes for 65 -yards and eight touchdowns. He was also stellar at returning kicks and punts.

Porter added, "I don't have a list of schools that I would be considering, but if they go for a new coach then my recruiting might open up."

Basically, Porter is taking wait and see approach and is not jumping to any quick conclusions or actions. He said he would contact us if anything changed soon.
