Recruiting: Johnson Ready To Get Back To Work

"It was good, a good break, but I am ready to get back," said Kevin Johnson, the Cypress Ridge standout wide receiver and Oklahoma State 2010 football commitment. The 6-2, 205-pound speedster was talking about the holiday break which ends for him Wednesday when he heads back for his final semester of high school.

We were asking Johnson about talking to us for a feature for the upcoming football recruiting issue and he wanted time to think about it. He does not need time to think about his pledge to Oklahoma State.

"I am solid," he said. "I took an unofficial visit during the season to see a game, but I will be up there on the (Jan.) 15th for my official visit.

"I am not doing anything in school with athletics this semester but I am doing my personal training and I got back with that starting yesterday."

Johnson was named to the second team All-District 15-5A squad over the holidays after playing much of the season out of position.

"I played a lot of quarterback," said the speedy Johnson sounding somewhat disappointed. "I am going to play wide receiver at Oklahoma State."

Despite being out of position some, Johnson finished with 65 rushes for 485 yards and a 7.5-yard average with six touchdowns this season. He caught 24 passes for 412 yards, a 17.2-yard per catch average and five touchdowns. That compares to last season when he earned first team All-District honors with 45 receptions for 696 yards, a 15.5-yards per catch average and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown in 2008.

Johnson told us he wanted to ponder his subject away from football for the feature story. We are set to touch base with him next week.
