Tip-off for the Cowboys' Big 12 opener is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Junior Marshall Moses is expected to be back on the court for the Cowboys after serving a one-game suspension in Tuesday night's final non-conference game against Coppin State. The 6-foot-6 Moses is the team's third-leading scorer (11.2 points) and averages a team-best 10.2 rebounds. Head coach Travis Ford disciplined him one day after his arrest by the Stillwater police department on drug possession charges.
Ford said following Tuesday night's game that Moses will play against the Red Raiders.
"Pat Knight has done a great job with this team," said Ford of the Red Raiders, who are 12-2 this season. "They are an extremely experienced older team. Everybody is a junior or a senior.
"Everybody has been in their program for a while and then they bring in junior college All-Americans and they are experienced. So it's a veteran, older team that is playing extremely hard.
" Pat has done a great job with this team. They deserve their top 25 ranking. They are that good. We are probably going to have to play the best we have played all year long in order to be able to compete with these guys. They are a very good basketball team," Ford added.
OSU junior James Anderson continues to lead the Big 12 in scoring with his 21.5 points per game average. Senior Obi Muonelo (12.0 ppg) and sophomore Keiton Page (10.6) also average in double figures.
Ford is happy to be 12-2 entering conference play but knows the Cowboys must continue to improve to win in what is the nation's best basketball league.
"We still have a lot of areas we need to get better at," said Ford. "I am happy we are 12-2. If you would have told me that before we started, I would have taken that in a split second.
"We have just got to get better numbers offensively to compete in the Big 12. We need to get everybody on the same page. But the non-conference (games), we saw a little bit of everything. I wish there had been a lot more consistency. We made it through it.
"But, again, as I have said, I know we are 12-2, but we are going to have to play our best basketball. We are going to have to play better than we have these past 14 games. I know that, in order for us to get some wins. I realize that. We have just got to get our team to realize that."
