Recruiting: Barnett To Visit Arkansas

Long time Oklahoma State commitment and All-American defensive tackle Calvin Barnett out of Tulsa (Washington), Okla., told us Thursday night for the first time that he is not going to be at Oklahoma State this weekend and that he is going to visit Arkansas this weekend instead, with a visit to Oklahoma State next weekend.

"You want to know my schedule for this weekend?" asked Barnett back to us. "I'm going to visit Arkansas. When am I going to Oklahoma State? I'll go there next weekend."

The 6-3, 320-pound Barnett was responsible for setting up one blocked kick and then blocking another in the recent U.S. Army All-American Game. Barnett also had two tackles, one unassisted and a quarterback hurry.

He has been committed to Oklahoma State since the early fall and made it to a couple of Cowboys games this season.

"I am still committed to Oklahoma State," said Barnett when asked if he still considered himself committed.

The obvious danger is that Barnett has an influential teammate in Eric Bennett that is committed to Arkansas and Bennett has said several times in the media that he wants to try and persuade Barnett to join him at Arkansas.

There is no listing of Bennett's visit date to Arkansas but this weekend might be a good guess as he has not taken his official visit to Fayetteville yet.

The positive in the situation is that Oklahoma State gets the last visit since Barnett said these were the only two he planned on taking.

Arkansas has two defensive tackle commitments in their class as of now, although one, Jatashun Beachum, out of Dallas (A. Maceo Smith), Texas, is listed as a soft commitment that is also strongly considering Michigan.

Oklahoma State is expecting an official visit this weekend from Javius Townsend of Dallas (James Madison), Texas. The 6-4, 280-pound offensive lineman is currently committed to Texas Tech but also visited Kansas last weekend.
