Recruiting: Roberson Gets Late OSU Offer

We knew that Oklahoma State had the need for cornerback and wide receiver and if they were going to do any more with the 2010 recruiting class, already sitting at 28 commitments or enrollees and one junior college signee, it was going to be at one of those two positions.

There were posts on the Internet as early as 10:55 a.m. Thursday that Oklahoma State had offered Tulsa (Union), Okla., wide receiver Thomas Roberson, a long-time commitment to the University of Tulsa. It turns out the posts were true.

"Oklahoma State just offered me today," said the 6-3, 190-pound Roberson, who has a brother James that is also heading to the University of Tulsa.

Roberson earned All-State honors this season as well as All-Metro from The Tulsa World for the Class 6A state champions. He returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the state championship game starting the Redskins on their rout of their rivals for the gold ball.

On the season he returned two punts for touchdowns and caught 62 passes for 827 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also scored a touchdown on a reverse. He has 4.5 speed and is also a track athlete.

His numbers in the strength department are high for a wide receiver as well with a 270-bench press max, a 420 on the squat, and a 36-inch vertical. He is an excellent student with a 3.8 GPA and a 20 on the ACT.

As for his reaction to the offer from the Cowboys, it was a little tough to read.

"Coach (Gunter) Brewer came over to talk to me and give me the offer," continued Roberson. "I have been committed to Tulsa for a long time and I did take my official visit there last week.

"I have not visited Oklahoma State and I will need to talk to my mom on that (whether he will visit OSU). It's a cool offer (from OSU) but I really need to talk to my mom about it, about the whole situation and see what she thinks."

We left our number with Roberson and told him if anything changes, and he is comfortable with letting it be known, then to give us a call. We'll see what happens.
