Recruiting: Will Dixon Be A Surprise?

Amid rumors on various web sites we weren't willing to report anything until we had confirmation and now with Oklahoma State using Stillwater's Buffalo Wild Wings as a Friday and/or Saturday lunch location that has become a good place to spot prospects. We have confirmed that All-American safety Ahmad Dixon is in Stillwater, and is making an official visit to Oklahoma State that will end tonight.

The 6-1, 194 pound Dixon is SuperPrep's Southwest Defensive Player of the Year and is an All-American that also was selected for the U.S. Army All-American Game. There had been speculation that Dixon, who has been committed to Tennessee, Texas and most recently Baylor during the recruiting process, would visit Oklahoma State but that talk had been out there last summer and in the fall and never materialized.

With the visual confirmation of Dixon being on campus it appears that he may be serious about Oklahoma State.

We also learned that linebacker A.J. Cunningham of Buford, Ga., did not make a visit this weekend because of the weather. Also, because of the weather and citing no need to be back on campus, Tulsa (Washington), Okla. defensive tackle Calvin Barnett and his mother, April Allen, did not test the slick roads to drive over for a scheduled official visit to Oklahoma State.

The biggest development in the form of a surprise final signee for Cowboys is Dixon. This past season Dixon finished with 67 tackles, one interception, two fumbles caused, one fumble recovered, and one blocked kick. Those numbers were down some from his last two seasons but offenses did their best to stay away from the speedy and aggressive Dixon.

Dixon did score two touchdowns as a senior for a playoff team at Midway High School in Waco, Texas. As a junior he earned All-State honors and more with 109 tackles and four interceptions. He also had three forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered, and two blocked kicks. As a sophomore Dixon had 105 tackles.

Besides the three schools he has been committed to Dixon also had offers from others the likes of Auburn, Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Southern Cal.

Dixon has been the subject of a lot of recruiting discussion centering around academics. We do not have any information on Dixon's academic situation and therefore can't speculate on it at all.

Sunday begins a quiet period in recruiting, which means schools cannot leave their campus. The dead period begins at midnight Sunday.

We will attempt to get in touch with Dixon after we know he has left the Oklahoma State campus and is no longer on his official visit.
