Cowboys Suffer Third Straight Loss

Not much went right for the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. Big 12 leading scorer James Anderson scored just 10 points before fouling out and the Cowboys turned the ball over 21 times in suffering an 81-74 loss to Texas Tech, giving second-year head coach Travis Ford his first three-game losing streak since taking over the program.

The Cowboys are now 16-7 after losing their third consecutive game, and fall to 4-5 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech improves to 15-7 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Anderson scored 28 points in leading Oklahoma State to an 81-52 victory over Texas Tech on Jan. 9 in Stillwater, but the Red Raiders shut down the Cowboy junior on Saturday. Anderson scored a season-low 10 points before fouling out with 5:02 remaining. He was averaging 23 points entering the game but made just two shots from the field (tying a season low, vs. Rhode Island), and took just eight field goal attempts (the fewest he's taken in a game this season).

OSU trailed 48-30 with 15 minutes in the game but got back in the game behind the hot shooting of guard Keiton Page, who scored all of his team-best 22 points in the second half.

Even with Anderson on the bench the Cowboys pulled within 65-61 with 3:30 left but the Red Raiders made their free throws down the stretch for the victory, which is Texas Tech head coach Pat Knight's first over OSU in five tries.

Texas Tech point guard John Roberson scored a season-high 28 points against the Cowboys. He was held scoreless and missed all five of his shots in the Red Raiders loss to the Cowboys last month at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys will return to action next Saturday when they host Bedlam rival Oklahoma in a nationally televised showdown (ESPN) from Gallagher-Iba Arena.
