Recruiting: Laurens Is A Name To Remember

I have known head coach Jim Holloway of Duncan (Okla.) High School for a long time and he has to be smiling when he thinks about next season as he has two of the top linemen on the state of Oklahoma. Dylan Dismuke is a 6-7, 305-pound standout and his teammate Dylan Laurens, at 6-4, 285 pounds, is also a tremendous talent.

In talking to Laurens, he did something we always love to hear a player do. Asked his strong points as a player and what he is working on, Laurens chose the latter to lead his answer.

"I'm really working on getting stronger, faster, working on my feet with ladders and stuff," he started. "I'm trying to improve in all the areas I can. As for my strong points. I think I am a better run blocker, but I need to work on my pass protection more."

Actually, having seen him on tape, Laurens is an outstanding linemen that can run block and pass protect well. He said he is in the mid 300s in his bench press but did not have a max on his squat. He also said he didn't have a current exact on his forty time, which his honesty is admired.

Laurens said so far he has heard from Oklahoma State and Missouri and has talked to Tulsa some.

"I'm looking for a school that has been successful in previous years, tradition is important," he said. "I am also looking at how close it is. I'd like to stay somewhat close to home. I really don't have a strong favorite from growing up."

A good student, Laurens is looking at two major options, academically. He is thinking either business or a major that will allow him to get into coaching.

He is also looking at attending some junior days starting with Oklahoma State later this month.
