Recruiting: OSU Targets Georgia DT

Oklahoma State has done pretty well recruiting Georgia since adding assistant coaches like linebackers coach Glenn Spencer and support staff like Robert Matthews and Scott Yielding, all who are native Georgians, This recruiting campaign the Cowboys are looking to strike it rich in the Peach State. One of those is defensive tackle Gabe Wright out of Columbus Carver High School.

Wright helped Carver to a state championship as a sophomore and last season led the Tigers to a second consecutive regional championship. He has loads of interest and scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, North Carolina State, Florida State, Tennessee, Maryland, USC, and Notre Dame.

However, Wright says he has a sincere interest in Oklahoma State."I do, I have a lot of interest in Oklahoma State," said the 6-4, 280-pound Wright.

"They are the only Big 12 school that I've heard from, really the only one that I think of now. When I was growing up Oklahoma was the school and a favorite. You know Adrian Peterson and Tommy Harris, Coach Bob Stoops, but they showed me no interest. Nothing.

"Oklahoma State is a good program that is on the way up and one of my guys from Carver, linebacker LeRon Furr, is working hard. He is going to be playing a lot this season. He has my trust. I know with him playing behind me that he'll have my back.

"I really like Coach (Mike) Gundy," continued Wright. "I remember a couple of years ago when he talked about being a man. In that speech he had his player's back and showed me that he is looking out for his players. That is when I really started liking him. I told him about it and we laughed. Coach (Glenn) Spencer is a great coach. I am planning on coming out there this summer for sure."

Wright is very mature physically as he can manhandle most opponents. He has a 390-pound bench press max and 420 pounds on the squat. He also can really move with great feet and agility.

This past season he finished with 55 tackles, 27 unassisted, which are big numbers for a defensive tackle. He had eight tackles for losses and seven quarterback sacks. He also plays basketball with the first-round playoff game coming up on Friday. He will then switch to track to throw shot put and discus. How about this, he almost played soccer.

"Yeah, goalie," claimed Wright. "I know I can't play anywhere else but I was playing well and showed a lot of potential as a goalie. I've got a big body to block out a lot of space."

Back to recruiting, Wright has been to Junior Days and games last season at Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and Clemson. He's also been to games at Tennessee and Florida State.

"I want to narrow it down soon, to like 8, 9, or 10 (schools)," he said. "I do want to take visits and see some schools up close before I make a decision."

There is no doubt about Wright as SuperPrep already has him ranked in the top 10 for Georgia seniors for next season.
