Cowboy Spring Football Notebook

There were a number of visitors at Friday's practice including Okklahoma State Cowboy signee Zach Craig out of Spring Branch (Smithson Valley), Texas. The all-district safety told us that he now has 192 pounds on his 6-3 frame and is working with a personal trainer and eating a bunch to fill out some in preparation for college football.

The former regional qualifer in track running the 300 hurdles is skipping track this spring to concentrate of preparing for Oklahoma State and football. Craig was in town with his parents and younger brother to watch his older sister play softball for Baylor against Oklahoma State.

Yukon junior-to-be quarterback Corbin Jones, who will be a 2012 prospect, was at the practice along with several of his coaches at Yukon including head coach Todd Wilson. The 6-2, 185-pound Jones last season completed 129 of 239 passes for 1,995 yards with 20 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions.

Among the other prospects there were several walk-on prospects for the upcoming class including Blake Abbott, the son of former Tulsa standout linebacker Cliff Abbott. Blake Abbott is an outside linebacker and deep snapper out of Liberal, Kan.

Cowboys Clinic Next Friday
The Cowboy coaching staff will host its annual coaches clinic all day on Friday, April 2. The clinic, which is open to all coaches, costs $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Friday.

Speakers include standout Oklahoma high school coaches like Glenpool head coach Steve Edwards and his defensive coordinator and Guthrie head coach Rafe Watkins and his defensive coordinator. Two of the winningest coaches in Texas, Jim Sweeney of San Antonio Madison and David Aymond of Galena Park North Shore will also be speaking, along with coaches on their staffs.

The Oklahoma State coaches will conduct clinic sessions Friday night and be there to exchange ideas with the coaches in attendance. The clinic includes two meals, lunch and dinner, and a social following the evening clinic sessions. For more information contact Johnny Barr in the Oklahoma State football office (405) 744-5737.
