Recruiting: Love Fits At Linebacker

We have changed the position on our Oklahoma prospects list of standout and honorable mention All-State performer Jake Love of Tonkawa, Okla.. Love rushed for 2,856 yards and a state-best 46 touchdowns last season on 262 carries. However, he also had 123 tackles on defense. In a tough call, as we have seen him on tape on both sides of the ball, we thought linebacker and in asking him, Love agrees.

"I would say outside linebacker because it is where I think I'd be best in college," said the 6-0, 200-pound Love. "My recruiting is going all right. I've got an offer from Kansas and I've been talking to Tulsa. I get quite a few letters. I've heard from the Big 12 schools."

Love said he grew up rooting for one school.

"OSU. I'm a big OSU fan and my brother and sister both go there," said Love. "Actually my brother just graduated this spring and my sister is a junior. I heard Coach (Bill) Young was at our school today but our head coach was giving a test, so I don't think they got to talk."

We spoke with Love after a baseball game Monday night. He plays centerfield and also runs track for Tonkawa, so he stays busy. He said his current best in the forty is 4.52. He also has a 305-pound max on the bench press.

He did add that he planned on going to some football camps this summer.

"I do want to go to some camps," he said. "I plan on going to camp at Oklahoma State, but I have to work those camps around our team camp and our coach hasn't told us yet when and where that will be."

By the way, did we tell you that Love also punts for Tonkawa. They don't punt much but he did average 35.1-yards per punt last season.
