Recruiting: Mabry Picks Up Big 12 Offer

Ashaad Mabry sent us a text update this past weekend. "Hey Mr. Allen, I got an offer from Baylor," wrote the 6-3, 290-pound defensive tackle out of San Antonio (MacArthur), Texas.

Mabry has not been offered yet by Oklahoma State but he could be an evaluation look away from getting something in the mail from the Cowboys. Interest is picking up in his recruiting, even before the Baylor offer.

"I have an offer from SMU and I spoke with the coach from Wyoming today and he said that once the defensive line coach sees my tape then he thought I would have no problem getting an offer from them," reported Mabry when we talked to him last week.

"Oklahoma State has talked to me a lot. Coach (Glenn) Spencer and I've also talked a lot with Coach (Bill) Young. They have said that I'm probably going to get an offer from them. Baylor has talked to me and have said the same thing. I've also talked to Texas A&M and Texas Tech a lot.

"I think I will go to some camps this summer and probably those four (Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech)."

Now the Baylor offer has come through. Oklahoma State, according to Mabry, has a bit of a built-in advantage if he his rooting interest still stands.

"Yes, I started out as a fan of Texas, but as I got older I really did become a fan of the Oklahoma State Cowboys," said Mabry.

Last season Mabry had 67 tackles and he also had four sacks, teaming up with fellow defenders on more than one occasion at the quarterback. He has solid academic work and that is a major factor for him in picking a school.
