Recruiting: Tanner Another DT Prospect

Dirk Tanner of Little Rock (Pulaski Academy), Ark., is flying under the radar it seems but as Oklahoma State pursues help at defensive tackle, he is on the Cowboys' radar. The 6-2, 270-pound Tanner has uncanny speed as he confirmed his forty time of 4.78. He also has a bench press max of 405 pounds and a squat max of 505 pounds.

"Right now my only offer is from Louisiana Tech," said Tanner. "I really like Louisiana Tech and I feel that I've got a bond with the coaches. They don't have a lot of nice facilities, so they really sell themselves. I'm really interested in them because I think they develop you to be a better person and not just a football player. I feel a spirit with them.

"Oklahoma State is recruiting me and they were here Tuesday, and I think they are coming back next week when we are in spring football so they can see me in pads.

"Arkansas is recruiting me and the recruiting coordinator was here last week and talked to me. He said they were interested in me as a fullback. I grew up an Arkansas fan, but they aren't at the top of my list as of now. I used to dream of going to Arkansas."

The talented defensive tackle said he has also heard from Tulsa and Kansas. Tulsa has sent a coach to Pulaski this spring during the evaluation period.

Tanner is also a wreslter and said he can tell that it has helped him in football. It almost helped him to a state championship as he lost in the championship round by a 7-5 score. He is a high energy player that is also a very good student and is debating whether to major in pre-med or in business.

This summer Tanner plans on visiting all three schools. He has not made out an itinerary, but he said he will camp at Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Louisiana Tech.
