Recruiting: Quincy Russell Just Taking It In

When we last talked to Quincy Russell, the standout defensive tackle out of San Antonio (Sam Houston), Texas, he was fresh off a busy weekend visiting the Nebraska spring game and stopping at Oklahoma State for a tour Sunday on the way home. Recruiting has not slowed down at all for Russell, but he is trying to enjoy it.

He has offers from the like of Texas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Arizona, Oklahoma, Baylor, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M, among many others.

"I'm just kicking back and trying to take it all in," said Russell. "I'm checking out schools and trying to see what all of them have to offer and getting ready for next football season.

"I know Coach Green (head coach at Sam Houston) is going to take me and some of the sophomores to some camps this summer. I don't know which ones yet, but I do know one of them will be in Austin (University of Texas)."

Russell said he has not been to any more campuses since that April swing north of the Red River. He has seen a lot of coaches come through his school this month during the evaluation period.

"I recognize a lot of them from either seeing them before, talking on the phone with them, or by the shirt they are wearing," said Russell. "Again, I'm just soaking it in and and I haven't narrowed down anything yet."

Last season he made 87 tackles of which an impressive 75 were unassisted. He also had seven sacks and a blocked kick. Russell has in mind a time where he hopes to have his recruiting decided.

"I'm not worried about it but I would like to have it decided before football season starts," he said. "If not, I won't worry and I will wait and take all my official visits and then make a decision after that."

As we previously reported, Russell has said that he wants to major in architectural engineering, and, of course, Oklahoma State has one of the best programs in the nation. That should help the Cowboys, but this seems for now to be a wide open recruiting situation.
