Plano East is going through spring football right now and Johnson said it is going well and the spring game is set for this Friday. He knows coaches are coming through all the time and he is hearing from schools and piling up the mail.
"I'm taking it in pretty good," he said. "I am pretty humble. I have been taught to stay humble, and I will throughout all of this."
He is very gifted as the 6-3 1/2, 195-pound Johnson is nearly big enough to factor as an outside or hybrid linebacker but plenty fast enough to play cornerback. He has legit 4.4 speed and says his max in the bench press is 255 pounds and he can squat 445 pounds.
His plans do include a visit in June to Notre Dame on June 16-18, and he could make some other campuses over the summer. He did give us kind of rundown of where he is in the decision-making stage.
"I don't really have a schedule. Sometimes I think I would like to have a decision made sometime at the end of the spring, but then I don't," he said. "I start thinking that I could take it right up to signing day.
"I know I want to major in criminal justice. Actually, in football I want to go somewhere that I will have the chance to start at a freshman and not have to redshirt. I want to go to a team that has a good defense that I can help make better. I want a team that likes to win, but they don't have to be coming off a winning season, a team that is one the edge of turning it around."
We asked Johnson also if any schools that have offered that are in the Big 12 have stood out to him.
"Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Nebraska," he answered. "Baylor, kind of. Yeah, you can list Baylor."
Again, Johnson and his Plano East teammates will wrap up spring football with the spring game on Friday.
