Recruiting: Simmons Up to 10 Offers

Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas is loaded with talent and one of those talented recruits for the 2011 recruiting class is linebacker Ryan Simmons.

"Yes, we've got a lot of players and we're hoping to win the ring," said Simmons.

A very team minded player, the 6-0 1/2, 227-pound defensive playmaker had a whopping 145 tackles last season with an interception to go with all the stops. He had 20 tackles in a win over San Marcos last season and one of those tackles was for a safety. He had 17 tackles in games with stout New Braunfels Canyon and San Antonio Southwest.

He combines his size and power with a 4.56 best in the forty. His current max in the bench press is 345, and 445 pounds in the squat. This spring he qualified for regional in the discus. His district toss was 152.5 feet and his personal record this spring was 157.7.

As for football he has 10 scholarship offers.

"No sir, I don't have a favorite right now," said Simmons of the collection of schools. "The most recent offer came just two days ago and that was Arizona. The one before that was Oklahoma State. Simmons said he might need to visit those three schools officially, but there are others he can make this summer and he said he wants to make some unofficial visits. Along with all the schools mentioned, Houston, Iowa State, and Purdue are also among the schools that have sent him a scholarship offer.

"My plan is to take some unofficial visits," he said. "There is no telling when, and I don't know which schools I will go to. Right now I am just riding it out.

"I don't have any favorites. I didn't have a favorite school growing up, just a favorite player. I really like Ray Lewis. I watch football, I love football, everything about it."

Simmons is not just a football player but a good student. He has a 3.6 core grade point average and scored "around an 840" on his first SAT. On the sliding scale he has no problem qualifying. He said his first thought for a major is architecture, but he is not set on that and is re-thinking it. He is very squared away and when he makes his decision it will be a solid one that is well thought out.
