Cowboy Football Notebook

Joe DeForest will tell you finding special teams help is more critical than it has been in a long time, especially during the tryouts in practice and special team periods to find a punt returner or two.

Josh Cooper is really the only experienced player in the punt return game but the search is on for a real game breaker. Cooper can do it, is comfortable, and is dependable catching the ball.

Newcomer Justin Gilbert will get first crack with his sub-4.3 speed to be a major threat in that role. There are others in the mix to including returning veteran from two years ago in Bo Bowling.

Booming to the Panhandle
The Panhandle Pokes, a very active Alumni Association and POSSE group in the Texas panhandle, have bucked up again and they guarantee the Cowboy Radio Network an out of state affiliate.

KAT Country FM 102 in Amarillo will boom Oklahoma State football throughout the panhandle and into West Texas banging heads with Texas Tech and other schools in Texas. Way to go Panhandle Pokes!

Hall of Fame Speeches to Notice
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is also a huge football fan and an individual that appreciates tradition. He is a huge fan of the great coaching legend Vince Lombardi.

Gundy has been an admirer of Pro Football Hall of Fame speeches before and even attended the induction ceremony of Barry Sanders. Gundy pointed out to his team that if given the chance they might want to YouTube or find in some other way the Hall of Fame speeches Saturday night of Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith and former Denver Broncos running back Floyd Little.
