Wegher Plans to Transfer to OU

NORMAN, Okla. -- With one decision, the Sooners' depth at running back just got that much better, as former Iowa running back Brandon Wegher announced Thursday afternoon that he will transfer and walk-on at OU.

Wegher, who left the team during fall camp for personal reasons and didn't play for the Hawkeyes this year, rushed for an Iowa freshman record eight touchdowns during Iowa's Orange Bowl run back in 2009.

He racked up 641 yards on 162 carries back during that year.

Wegher has always had an affinity for OU, dating back to his recruiting days and perhaps before that.

"Oklahoma is my early leader," Wegher told Scout.com back in 2007. "My aunt was a mentor for a lot of players who played there a few years ago, so I have grown up being around and following the program. I also look up to Adrian Peterson."

He joins a running back group that loses senior DeMarco Murray, but returns the talents of youngsters Roy Finch and Brennan Clay and more.
