WHoops: Bedlam Bosses

For the 24th time in the past 25 meetings on the hardwood between the OU and OSU women's basketball teams, the squad donning the Crimson and Cream came out on top, as the Sooners battled back from a halftime deficit to defeat the Cowgirls 82-77 Saturday afternoon in Stillwater.

Guard Aaryn Ellenberg led the way with 23 for the Sooners, while point guard Danielle Robinson added 20.

Five Cowgirls were in double figures, led by center Vicky McIntyre, who had 16 points, but that wasn't enough for the home team who led 8-0 and squandered a 42-38 lead at intermission.

The Sooners snagged their first lead since the 3:32 mark of the first half when forward Carlee Roethlisberger nailed a 3-pointer with 17:58 remaining.

That set the pace for a fierce finish.

In fact, neither team led by more than five in the second half, and for majority of the time, it was a one possession game.

The team's were tied late in the half until Ellenberg hit a jumper with just more than five minutes left, and the Sooners led for good from that point on.

But it was certainly a grinder for a Sooner team that now finds itself at 6-1 and just ½ game back from Big 12 leader Texas A&M in the conference standings.

OU will next take action against second place Baylor (5-0) at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Waco, Texas.
