OU-Missouri Hoops Preview

Sooners Illustrated breaks down the matchup between OU and Missouri Saturday night in Columbia, Mo.

After putting together four straight victories, the Sooners (12-11, 4-5 Big 12) have since dropped two straight and fell into a four-way tie for fifth place after moving up as high as third. Still, they come in as a much improved team ready to take on a Missouri team with the same conference record and an 18-6 overall mark. The Tigers have rested for five days since a loss to Kansas, but they've lost three out of four. Both teams are on a two-game conference losing streak.

Sooner Notes:

--OU leads the all-time series 112-94 including a 66-61 triumph in Norman last season. However, Mizzou owns it in Columbia with a 59-29 advantage and four straight.

--The Sooners lost for only the second time at home all season the other night where, they've racked up an 11-2 record, but they've been much less impressive on the road, winning only one game in nine attempts.

--Although they've lost two straight, one major positive has been fewer turnovers, as they've committed only 10.5 per game over the past four outings. It culminated it a season-low of eight in the loss to Texas the other night.

--Guard Cameron Clark was on a roll, netting 15 points and six rebounds per contest during the four-game winning streak. He's since just averaged a point and 3.5 boards per game in the last two.

Looking at the Tigers:

--They are ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press and No. 20 in the ESPN/USA Today Polls.

--The Tigers are 14-0 this season and have won 49 of the past 51 at the hostile Mizzou Arena.

--Mizzou ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at 44 percent, but it's only ninth in rebounding margin at -4.7.

--Guard Marcus Denmon leads the squad with 16.5 points per game, which ranks seventh in the Big 12. He's also second in the conference in steals, with 2.2, third in 3-point percentage at 45.2 percent and sixth in 3-pointers per outing, at 2.4.

--Head coach Mike Anderson is in his fifth season with a 106-52 overall record at MU.

Sooners Illustrated's Take:

Coming off a lackluster performance against Texas, expect the Sooners to show up with better energy. But the Tigers are just too tough at Mizzou Arena. OU just doesn't have the horses to snap that four-game skid in Columbia. This one, though, will be closer than a lot of people may think. The Tigers could have a bit of a hangover after getting walloped by Kansas. If that's the case, it will be really close.
