RECRUITING: Sooners host top CB prospect

Waco, Texas cornerback Marcus Walker talks about his trip to OU and his connections in Norman

MARCUS WALKER, CB, 6'0, 183, 4.4, WACO, TEXAS:

Walker is without question one of the best pure cover corners in the country and quite possibly the best cornerback in Texas. Walker will be a three-year starter at Waco High School and was given so much respect last season that teams never threw his way.

"I am not sure what my tackles were last year, but I didn't get any interceptions because nobody ever threw my way," said Walker. "At first it was hard on me to never get challenged, but after a while I got use to it and realized it was only benefiting the team that nobody every threw at me. We won 11 straight games last year and we were winning and that is all I cared about. As long as the team was doing well I didn't care if I got any interceptions or not."

Walker can bench 250 pounds, squats 400 and he has a 36-inch vertical jump. Walker will go to the NIKE camp in College Station and he is still trying to decide what summer football camp to attend. Walker runs the 4X100 and 4X200 relay in track and either runs the first or second leg for both relays.

This past weekend Walker visited Norman and was impressed with his visit.

"It was a good trip and I had a great time," said Walker. "I came with my teammate Torey Degrate and we stayed with Vince Carter and Tommie Harris at their house. Vince is a great friend of ours and it was great we got to see him, and Tommie was fantastic. I enjoyed meeting the coaches, because they were young and energetic.

"Oklahoma is one of my top schools right now and they are at the very top of my list," Walker continued. "I am also looking at Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas and many others, but those four are my top four and I would say my decision is up for grabs among those four."

Walker says the fact he has friends at OU will help in him make his decision.

"I have friends in Vince and Tommie at OU and they are two of my best friends," said Walker. "I have a friend in Derrick (Johnson) at Texas and our quarterback (Robert Johnson) is probably going to Arkansas. I don't have any friends at Texas A&M, but they are still a good schools."

"Oklahoma plays an NFL style defense and that impresses me," said Walker. "They just don't run one coverage, they run a variety of coverages, just like they do in the NFL. The fact that you have to learn different coverages, I think, will get you ready for the next level."

Walker has qualified.
