Starts a Sooner Target?

Sooners Illustrated caught up with Michael Starts, 2012 left tackle prospect out of La Vega HS in Waco (TX). Starts hasn't done many interviews so when he agreed to interview with Sooners Illustrated we jumped at the opportunity. Check inside to see what the big man had to say.

Michael Starts plays left tackle for his La Vega squad but is being recruited to play along the offensive line and defensive line in college. Schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, Auburn, Michigan and Notre Dame have all offered the 6-foot-4.5 and 275-pound specimen.

One other top program may also be a part of that list as well but Starts has not been able to confirm it yet.

"I think OU," Starts said about his offers. "I think so. I'm still trying to figure out if they did or not."

With two junior days already in the past it sounds as though another junior day could be on the horizon as Starts says the Sooners want him to come down and attend.

"They want me to come down to a junior day so I'll have to go to a junior day," Starts said.

When it comes to Oklahoma, who Starts stated he does have interest in, he says he doesn't know much about the Sooners and he hasn't talked with anyone on the coaching staff as of yet but wants to learn more about them when he visits Norman.

"I don't really know much about Oklahoma so hopefully when I go down there I can learn a whole lot more. I am starting to do a lot of research on schools," Starts explained.

Starts shows the ability to play left tackle or even slide down to guard at the next level but could also put his hand on the ground and rush the passer. However, Starts says he would like to play defense if he could.

"I'd like to play defense but I'll play where the coaches need me at," Starts said.

Over the summer Starts says he would like to narrow his list of schools down to three or four and then make his decision when the timing is right.

The things he will be looking for in a school when the timing is right for his decision is really quite simple for Starts.

"Education," Starts stated about what he is looking for in a school. "Got to get my education."

Since football season ended Starts has just been working out and trying to stay in shape along with participating in track and field. As far as visits go Starts only has one set up in the near future where he will see Texas Tech this upcoming weekend.

Stay tuned to Sooners Illustrated for more updates on Starts in the future.
