Brief Stay

NORMAN, Okla. -- Running back Brandon Wegher, who transferred from Iowa to OU in the offseason and gave the campus a buzz, couldn't even make it through a week of spring ball, as he has already parted ways with the Sooners, head coach Bob Stoops announced Wednesday after their second spring practice.

"Yeah, he's not with us anymore," Stoops said. "That didn't last real long."

But it's safe to say he's not overly concerned about it.

"I think we've got a few backs as it is, so we'll be okay," Stoops said.

Wegher, who left the team during fall camp for personal reasons and didn't play for the Hawkeyes last season, rushed for an Iowa freshman record eight touchdowns during Iowa's Orange Bowl run back in 2009.

He racked up 641 yards on 162 carries back during that year.

Wegher always seemed to have an affinity for OU, dating back to his recruiting days and perhaps before that.

"Oklahoma is my early leader," Wegher told back in 2007. "My aunt was a mentor for a lot of players who played there a few years ago, so I have grown up being around and following the program. I also look up to Adrian Peterson."

He would have been part of a running back group that lost senior DeMarco Murray, but returns the talents of youngsters Roy Finch and Brennan Clay and more.
