Basketball Recruiting Notes

The latest news and notes on a big weekend for OU Men's and Women's Basketball recruiting

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooner men's basketball program has two scholarships to give this spring and had a good weekend of visits with all three of the recruits who were scheduled to be in Norman.

It appears that the decision from 6-foot-8 inch Arizona transfer Dennis Latimore is down to OU and Notre Dame. OU had a super weekend with Latimore and as he returns back to Arizona he is trying to decide whether to go ahead and commit to the Sooners or take his scheduled visit to Notre Dame this weekend. The odds are that he will visit Notre Dame this weekend, because Latimore is an outstanding student and he and his mom really appreciate the academic standing the Fighting Irish have to offer. Notre Dame's outstanding academics will get Latimore on campus and then anything can happen. Latimore's decision will come down to OU and Notre Dame.

OU still hasn't decided which guard they want between Jaison Williams (6'2) from The College of Southern Idaho or Donnell Allick (6'3) of Seward Country JC in Kansas. Both came to OU hoping to get an offer and both left still hoping to get an offer from OU. Williams and Allick are considered good junior college guards, but not great ones and both want to come to OU very badly. OU will try to decide in the next couple of days which player they want.

The OU women had a great weekend with 6-foot-2 inch Tiffany Thompson of Trinity Valley JC in Texas. Thompson is a very athletic post who had narrowed her decision down to OU, Purdue and La. Tech before visiting OU this weekend.

After visiting Norman this weekend it looks like Thompson is very close to signing with the Sooners. Thompson told the OU coaching staff that she is scheduled to visit La. Tech on Wednesday and then will sign with OU on Thursday or Friday. Thompson is the only post player the Sooners hope to sign in the second signing period and would bring some tremendous athletic ability to the post, which is something the Sooners don't have at the moment.
