Sooners Set to Open Up Big 12's Vs. K-State

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Crimson and Cream came into the weekend with a chance to seal up the three seed, if it could just take care of business and win all three games.

That didn't happen.

In fact, the Sooners couldn't even sneak out of Baylor with a series victory, dropping a pair of games sandwiched around a victory.

But the Texas Tech Red Raiders paid the Sooners a favor, delivering Oklahoma State a couple of defeats and a series loss, allowing OU to sneak into the No. 3 spot ahead of OSU in the upcoming week's Big 12 Tournament.

It pits the Sooners in a 3-6 matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Redhawks Field in Oklahoma City.

They will also be on the same side of the bracket as No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 7 Texas Tech.

Those winners will face each other at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, while the losers will continue on and battle it out in double elimination format at 12:30 p..m. Thursday.

The other side features No. 1 Texas against No. 8 Missouri and No. 4 Oklahoma State vs. No. 5 Baylor.

Those winners and losers will face each other as well, with the eventual bracket champions competing in the championship game.

This will be the first time since 2005 that the Big 12 Championship is double elimination, as each of the past five seasons has featured pool play format.

OU won the first ever conference tournament back in 1997 and has not won one since, posting a 24-23 all-time record in the event.
