Sooners Remaining 2012 Targets Pt. 2

A few days ago Sooners Illustrated showed you who the Sooners are still pursuing on the offensive side of the ball for the 2012 class. This time around we show you who they are pursuing on the defensive side. Check inside for more.

Here are the defensive targets the Sooners appear to be targeting the most at the moment.

Danielle Hunter (DE, Morton Ranch HS, TX) –The buzz around Hunter just seems to be getting bigger and bigger as we go. More and more offers keep rolling through his door and more appear to definitely be on the way. Hunter has only taken one visit to Houston so far but will soon be visiting other schools as well. This past weekend he was scheduled to visit Norman but a little miscommunication happened and Coach Bobby Jack Wright was not going to be in town so the visit will be pushed back. It still sounds like even after this past weekend that the Sooners will still be his first visit to a top BCS school and that definitely can't be a bad thing.

Ryan Reid (CB, Sherman HS, TX) – At one point it was Oklahoma, Baylor and Arizona that were grabbing Reid's attention and now Vanderbilt is included. Reid has said that he will take his five official visits. Reid was supposed to come up for the summer camp but that plan was derailed because of a family situation. Reid still plans to visit Norman next month in July and we are not ruling out a possibility of a commitment if he is able to make it up. A source we spoke with that talked with Reid a few weekends ago says he believes Reid will end up a Sooner when all is said and done.

Brian Nance (LB, Trinity HS, TX) – Nance is planning on taking his official visits before announcing his decision. He has mentioned before that he either has or will have a top five. Nance has mentioned a few of the teams he includes in that group which are Oklahoma, USC, Oregon and Notre Dame so far. Out of all these programs Nance has been to Oklahoma the most. And the fact that Coach Venables has been by Trinity multiple times since last summer to check in on Nance definitely can't hurt considering Nance's statements about Oklahoma getting his name out there. Come NSD the Sooners still appear to be in the driver's seat to get Nance's LOI.

Colin Blake (CB, SA Brandeis HS, TX) – Blake was overly excited once he received his Oklahoma offer. The fact that the the opportunity is there to play with his close friend Kyle Marrs, an Oklahoma commitment just added on to his excitement about the offer. The Sooners along with Texas A&M, TCU, and Texas Tech have all been named as top schools by Blake. One team that could be joining the party soon though is the Texas Longhorns. We recently spoke with a reliable source who said that Texas is looking at their numbers to see if they have room for Blake. One source has said that he grew up a fan of Texas and would commit on the spot with an offer but will Texas offer?

Dalton Santos (LB, Van HS, TX) – Santos has always had interest in the Sooners even when he was committed to Oklahoma State. He recently de-committed from the Cowboys and is now reconsidering his options. Santos has said that the Sooners are in his top five and does plan to visit at some point. Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas and Oklahoma State are other programs Santos is considering as well. David Sandhop of's Aggie Websider said distance from home will play a factor. Santos wants his family to be able to travel to his games and get back in one day. It's only a four and a half hour drive From Van (TX) to Norman (OK) which can definitely be done in one day roundtrip.

Polo Manukainiu (DE, Trinity HS, TX) – Manukainiu is fresh off his trip to Norman and afterward said they are definitely in his top five. Based off of the info that was posted in last week's edition of the SMI it sounds like the Sooners may be at the top of his top five. Manukainiu is scheduled for more visits here in the near future to some of his other favorites like Utah, Arizona and Arizona St. The Sooners appear to have as good a chance as any of his other favorites for Manukainiu's signature but we will have to wait and see what happens after he goes on his other visits.

Other prospects to keep an eye on are:

Kevin Peterson (CB, Wagoner HS, OK)

Travell Dixon (CB, Eastern Arizona Juco, AZ)

Adrian McDonald (DB, Eisenhower HS, OK)

Ondre Pipkins (DT, Park Hill HS, MO)

Eddie Goldman (DT, Edison-Friendship Public Charter School, DC)

Orion Jones (DT, Jenks HS, OK)
