Ranking the Most Important on Offense: No. 21

Sooners Illustrated now presents the second half of the fifth day of the most crucial offensive players countdown with another skill player at No. 21 (b.).

No. 21 (b.):

Player: Sheldon McClain

Position: Backup wide receiver

The rundown: Like wide receiver Justin McCay, No. 21 (a.), McClain also redshirted during the 2010 season. And also like McCay, he suffered an injury in spring ball that limited his progression. McClain broke his collarbone near the end of spring ball, and that prevented him from playing in the Spring Game. He also sat out his entire senior season in high school due to a knee injury. So, the 6-foot-1, 184-pounder from Cibolo, Texas has a bit of an injury past, but since they're not related, it's not that concerning.

Expectations for 2011: McClain is right there with the rest of the backups who have an opportunity to sneak into playing time. He's quick and has all the right tools to get the job done. And before his injury, wide receivers coach Jay Norvell was certainly bragging about his progress.
