Ranking the Most Important on Offense: No. 7

NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooners Illustrated is now into the final week of the offensive countdown with Tuesday's version.

No. 7:

Player: Gabe Ikard

Position: Starting left guard

The rundown: Ikard earned a spot on the Associated Press Honorable Mention All-Big 12 Team a year ago with his 72 knockdowns on 679 snaps. He's a 6-foot-4, 295-pound guard who started the last 11 games of the season and played in 13. Ikard recorded a season-high 11 knockdowns in a crucial Bedlam win. And he also does it in the classroom, where he was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team recipient with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Expectations for 2011: The left guard position is his to lose because of the way he finished last year. Ikard really excelled toward the end of the season and solidified himself as a starter on the offensive line. He'll seriously compete for awards in the Big 12 Conference because he's that good. Ikard is a crucial component of this O-line unit.
