Sooners Heavily Favored to Win the Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. -- A day after dominating the preseason media All-Big 12 lists, the Sooners have done the same on the preseason media Big 12 poll, garnering all but two first place votes and emerging as the runaway favorite to win the conference.

The Sooners collected 428 points, including 41 first place votes, and the next closest was Texas A&M, at 362.

Oklahoma State was predicted to finish third with 360 points.

Each of those teams had one first place vote.

Missouri came in fourth with 281 points, and Texas ranked fifth with 265.

Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Iowa State and Kansas were predicted in the six through 10 slots, with 194, 191, 140, 93 and 51 points, respectively.

When the season opens up in early September, the Sooners will begin the chase for both their eighth Big 12 and National Championship.

They will also attempt to repeat as Big 12 Champions, winners of the title last year and also in 2000, '02, '04, '06, '07 and '08.

OU was picked to win the South Division nine times in the conference's existence as it was and won it six of those times.

Now that the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and Big 12 Poll has been released, all that's left before fall camp is Media Days.

The coaches and select players from each team will convene for that July 25-26 in Dallas.
