Offensive Countdown: Top 10 Extra

Sooners Illustrated is just out of the top five on the countdown, so now it's time to present the second and final extra on the list.

Top 10 Extra:

Player: Jonathan Miller

Position: Backup running back

The rundown: Miller tore his meniscus and had a micro fracture in his left knee back in 2009. Then, with the competition of newcomers Roy Finch and Brennan Clay, along with veterans DeMarco Murray and Mossis Madu, he redshirted last year. But don't be deceived by that. This 6-foot, 199-pound back is very skilled. He showed glimpses of that before his injury two years ago, rushing 18 times for 130 yards that season in seven games. That included an 88-yard performance featuring a 36-yard touchdown scamper against Idaho State.

Expectations for 2011: He's worked his way into the second spot on the depth chart behind Clay, and there's no mistake about that. Miller progressed big time in the spring, and there's every reason to believe if Finch and Brandon Williams are in the Top 10 on this countdown, Miller is right there with them because of the competitive nature he brings to this running back corps. His listing on the two-deep suggests that the coaches have seen him make the necessary strides and expect him to be a contributor in 2011. Due to his injury and redshirt background, coupled with all the other electric guys in the backfield, Miller is sort of an overlooked back, but his importance is certainly there. Essentially, Sooners Illustrated sees all the backup running backs with a legitimate chance for playing time to be of equal importance.
