Ranking the Most Important on Offense: No. 2

Sooners Illustrated is now just a day away from the No. 1 spot on the offensive countdown with today's version.

No. 2:

Player: Ryan Broyles

Position: Starting slot receiver

The rundown: Instead of bolting for the National Football League and foregoing his senior season of eligibility, Broyles chose to make a decision that many college stars do not: return for their final year. Just days after the 2010 season, he announced his intentions to come back and pursue a national championship at OU. And Sooner fans gladly welcomed that decision from the OU all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Broyles, a 5-foot-10, 188-pound receiver, has racked up 266 catches for 3,429 yards and 35 touchdowns throughout his career. Last year, he accumulated a huge chunk of that, recording 131 receptions for 1,622 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Expectations for 2011: Sooner fans and the nation better get ready for another explosive year from Broyles because that's just what's in store. He'll again be in a battle against OSU's Justin Blackmon and others for the Biletnikoff Award for the nation's best receiver. And the Heisman? He'll be in the discussion for that, too, if he puts up numbers similar to last season. Broyles will likely average 100 yards per game or more and score double digit touchdowns again.
