Ranking the Most Important on Offense: No. 1

NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooners Illustrated has finally made it to the top spot inside.

No. 1:

Player: Landry Jones

Position: Starting quarterback

The rundown: Since taking over for Sam Bradford in 2009, Jones has been brilliant and last year, in particular. Jones threw for 4,718 yards last season, completing 405-of-617 passes, and he tossed 38 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions. That enabled him to win the Sammy Baugh Award and first team All-Big 12 by many publications and second team All-Big 12 by the AP. A 6-foot-4, 229-pound signal caller, Jones has already thrown for 64 touchdowns and only 26 interceptions in two seasons

Expectations for 2011: He's listed on the watch lists for the Maxwell Award, presented to the nation's top football player, and the Davey O'Brien Award, given to the nation's best quarterback, and not just for any reason. The numbers above speak for themselves, and there's every reason to believe he'll have a similar season this time around. Jones is a serious candidate for the Heisman Trophy Award and will have that type of year leading the Sooners towards a potential national championship. He'll be both leading the troops and bringing home the awards.
