Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 25

NORMAN, Okla. — Throughout the entire month of July, Sooners Illustrated counted down the 25 most important players on offense, and now in August, we're poised to bring you the 25 most important players on defense.

No. 25:

Player: Julian Wilson

Position: Backup defensive back

The rundown: Wilson, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound DB from Southmoore, redshirted last year but really showed his versatility during his junior year of high school when he recorded 43 tackles and six passes broken up along with 21 catches for 265 yards and three touchdowns. That enticed OU to offer him, and they've since worked him as a reserve corner. Wilson really improved over that stretch, as he saw some time in the most recent spring game, picking up one tackle.

Expectations for 2011: He was on the two-deep in the spring, but with Jamell Fleming's return and Joe Powell's shift from wide receiver to corner, Wilson has been moved off the depth chart. Nevertheless, Powell will still compete with this rotation at defensive back. He's a talented athlete, so don't be surprised to hear his name a few times this camp and possibly heading into the season.
