Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 3

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated is now just two spots from the top on the defensive countdown.

No. 3:

Player: Frank Alexander

Position: Starting defensive end

The rundown: Since his redshirt freshman year back in 2008, Alexander has started more than half the games he's played in. He has participated in 35 contests throughout the last three years, starting 18. And he's been productive in those, especially last year when he finished second on the team with 13 tackles for loss. He racked up seven sacks, which also ranked second on the team. Alexander also finished with 39 tackles, three PBU's, a quarterback hurry and forced fumble. So far throughout his career, the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder has recorded 88 tackles, including 25 for loss, and 12 sacks.

Expectations for 2011: Alexander is the most important player on this defensive line because of the experience and leadership skills he possesses. This fifth-year senior has the potential to be a game changer for OU's defense in 2011. He should easily finish with double-digit tackles for loss once again as an every game starter. And he'll have to pick up the slack if, for some reason, Ronnell Lewis is ineligible at the other end position.
