Good to Go

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooner fans can breathe a deep sigh of relief for a change because "The Hammer," defensive end Ronnell Lewis has been declared eligible.

"We are very happy for Ronnell," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "This has been a difficult process and I know he's relieved today. Now he can fully concentrate on this season and school year."

Throughout fall camp, it has been the hottest topic and head coach Bob Stoops repeatedly said he would "say something definitive when he knew something definitive."

Nothing was definitive until this morning, but it is now.

And there was reason to be optimistic during camp.

Lewis has worked with the first team for the entirety, although he missed a couple practices, one due to a friend's funeral.

He had 37 tackles, including five for loss and 3.5 sacks a year ago.

Lewis also picked off a pass and had three PBU's, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.

With this NCAA decision, the depth at defensive end has been solidified with starters Lewis and Frank Alexander, along with David King, who defensive ends coach Bobby Jack Wright said is "basically" a starter.

Redshirt freshmen Chuka Ndulue and Geneo Grissom will also see time and provide solid options there.
