Sooner Schedule Prediction: BCS Bound??

NORMAN, Okla. — What will OU's record be in 2011, and what bowl game will the Sooners go to? Sooners Illustrated provides a prediction here.

Date: Sept. 3

Game: vs. Tulsa

Prediction: The Golden Hurricane's offense is a lot less potent without wide receiver Damaris Johnson, and the Sooners' offense should be able to score at will. Because of that, they should be able to cover the 23-point spread. Final Score: OU 45, Tulsa 14

Record: 1-0 (0-0 Big 12)

Date: Sept. 17

Game: @ No. 5 Florida State

Prediction: The Sooners pasted the Seminoles 47-17 in Norman last year, but this time around it's a different story. Doak Campbell Stadium. Under the lights. At the end of the day, though, OU still prevails because of its edge on offense. Final Score: OU 27, Florida State 21

Record: 2-0 (0-0 Big 12)

Date: Sept. 24

Game: vs. No. 21 Missouri

Prediction: OU gets its first chance at a little payback in 2011 when the Tigers come to town. And this is a much tougher test than it first appears on paper for the Sooners. The fact that it's at home, though, and OU will be coming off a huge victory with some motivation is reason to suggest it won't trip up in this one. Final Score: OU 38, Missouri 28

Record: 3-0 (1-0 Big 12)

Date: Oct. 1

Game: vs. Ball State

Prediction: The only true cupcake on the schedule this year is the Cardinals in week five. And it comes at a welcome time. The Sooners are just fresh off a pair of tough victories against FSU and Mizzou and a week before the annual Red River Rivalry game. The Sooners smash BSU in this one. Final Score: OU 55, Ball State 3

Record: 4-0 (1-0 Big 12)

Date: Oct. 8

Game: vs. No. 24 Texas in Dallas

Prediction: This series is built on streaks and the Sooners start another one over the Longhorns with a dominating victory. They run their overall winning streak to double digits dating back to 2010. Final Score: OU 35, Texas 13

Record: 5-0 (2-0 Big 12)

Date: Oct. 15

Game: @ Kansas

Prediction: The worst team in the conference can't contain quarterback Landry Jones and the high-octane Sooner offense when the Sooner Schooner rolls into town in mid-October. OU blasts Kansas on the road. Final Score: OU 45, Kansas 10

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big 12)

Date: Oct. 22

Game: vs. Texas Tech

Prediction: OU heads into its first contest as the official Bowl Championship Series (BCS) No. 1 ranked team. And they take care of business against the Red Raiders in a series which has featured the home team winning seven consecutive contests. Final Score: OU 41, Texas Tech 14

Record: 7-0 (4-0 Big 12)

Date: Oct. 29

Game: @ Kansas State

Prediction: One of the most overlooked games on the schedule is this one. People are pegging the Wildcats as one of the bottom three teams in the conference, but winning in Manhattan is always tough. Still, OU escapes and it's by no means a nail biter. Final Score: OU 44, Kansas State, 17

Record: 8-0 (5-0 Big 12)

Date: Nov. 5

Game: vs. No. 9 Texas A&M

Prediction: Lots of storylines for this one. The last time the two will face as members of the Big 12 Conference with A&M set to bolt to the SEC. Payback or redemption for OU's loss in College Station last year. A potential Top 10 matchup. Again, even though the Aggies possess a dynamic offense, the Sooners will prevail behind their home crowd. Final Score: OU 31, Texas A&M 27

Record: 9-0 (6-0 Big 12)

Date: Nov. 19

Game: @ Baylor

Prediction: OU hammered the Bears and silenced the critics who said OU couldn't win on the road by finishing last season with a pair of victories in true road venues (at Waco and Stillwater) and two wins in neutral environments (vs. Nebraska in Big 12 Championship and vs. UConn in the Fiesta Bowl). This one started the entire run away from Norman. OU will seize another road victory over the Bears this time around and it again won't be close. Final Score: OU 48, Baylor 13

Record: 10-0 (7-0 Big 12)

Date: Nov. 26

Game: vs. Iowa State

Prediction: The Sooners haven't lost to the Cyclones since a 33-31 decision all the way back in 1990, and they'll win their 13th straight in the series this year. This one will be well over by halftime. Final Score: OU 52, Iowa State 6

Record: 11-0 (8-0 Big 12)

Date: Dec. 3

Game: @ Oklahoma State

Prediction: OU's toughest conference matchup comes on the last week of the season. The annual Bedlam matchup has now been moved from Thanksgiving weekend to the first week of December. This game should be a dandy just like last year's version. With two high-octane offenses, including OU's led by Jones and slot receiver Ryan Broyles and OSU's guided by quarterback Brandon Weeden and the 2010 Biletnikoff winner Justin Blackmon, it will be a very high scoring affair. OSU leads at some point in the second half, but OU pulls it out to complete an undefeated regular season. Final Score: OU 45, Oklahoma State 42

Record: 12-0 (9-0 Big 12)

Date: Jan. 9

Game: BCS National Championship vs. Wisconsin in New Orleans, La.

Prediction: In a shocker for many around the nation, the SEC's national championship winning streak comes to an end not because a team knocks them off in the title game, but rather because no one from the nation's best conference earns a spot this year. LSU loses to Oregon the first week of the season, and Alabama trips up as well along the way. Meanwhile, the Sooners methodically take care of business and Oregon loses a close one to Stanford. It's in midst of this the Badgers just keep winning and emerge from the Big Ten as a legitimate national championship contender. They draw Nebraska at home and the toughest part of their schedule is at Nos. 17 and 18 Michigan State and Ohio State, respectively, in late October. They get through, win the Big Ten Championship and the two then meet for all the marbles in Mardi Gras Ville. In a game that features bruising Big Ten smash mouth football against OU's prolific Big 12 offense, the Sooners get the best of the Badgers. Jones leads the Sooners to their eighth national championship and first since 2000 in a wire-to-wire season. Final Score: OU 31, Wisconsin 23

Record: 13-0 (9-0 Big 12)
