RECRUITING: Francis stands out at Nike camp

LaMarque linebacker/cornerback James Francis gets Oklahoma's attention at College Station Nike Camp

To really appreciate Francis you have to project him in the future. He looks pretty good right now at linebacker, but linebacker will not be his position in college. Francis plays linebacker pretty well, and in fact he plays it very well, but you have to project him in the future as a cornerback or free safety.

Francis finished with 150 tackles on the season, 15 sacks and he scored two defensive touchdowns on fumble recoveries while playing linebacker. But know many college recruiters like his future in the secondary.

"I am not worried about making the change to corner in the college game," said Francis. "I will get used to it and I know I have the speed to play corner in college. I can already cover pretty well, but I need work on my footwork and fundamentals."

Francis can bench 330 pounds, squats 500 and has posted a 31-inch vertical jump. Francis performed at the NIKE camp at College Station a couple of weeks ago and ran a 4.4 flat in the forty and benched 185 pounds 22 times. Francis is on the powerlifting team (1275 total in three events) and he runs track (100M/10.9).

Francis is hearing from a lot of colleges at this time and is still waiting on his first offer, but he doesn't feel that is to far away.

"I really like Kansas State, Utah, Michigan, State, TCU and Baylor and all are showing great interest," said Francis. "Oklahoma was just at our school the other day and I got a questionnaire from them that they want me to fill out. They have indicated to me that they are interested and if they are then I am certainly interested in them."

Francis plans to attend the Houston combine this Saturday. Then later this summer he hopes to attend the Texas A&M and TCU camp.
