Oklahoma in Woods' Top Three

Sooners Illustrated caught up with Derrick Woods late last night for a quick interview. Woods, Scout.com four-star safety and wide receiver prospect out of Inglewood (CA) will be planning visits here soon. Check inside to see what he had to say in this brief interview.

The Sooners' number one target at the receiver position is obviously Dorial Green-Beckham, but that doesn't mean they aren't still interested in other prospects like Derrick Woods out of Inglewood HS. The 5-foot-11 and 180-pound prospect has offers from programs from the west coast to the east coast. Woods is being recruited to play wide receiver or safety at the next level and the Sooners are recruiting him at the wide out position.

Woods says that he has interest in Oklahoma because he loves how they throw the ball. Woods also likes Oklahoma receivers coach, Jay Norvell, as well.

"He's a great guy, real lively person," Woods began. "We talked when he came to see me a while back and I believe I'd fit in well in their program."

Woods has said before that he plans to take an official visit to Norman to check out the Sooners sometime before NSD but has to worry about his SAT first.

"As far as my trips go I have to take my SAT in October so as soon as that's taken care of I'll start planning trips."

Other programs that are standing out to Woods at the moment are USC, Alabama and Arizona as well. The Sooners are in a good position with Woods though at the moment.

"They stand in my top three," Woods said.

His relationship with the coaching staff as well as the players on the team will play a major factor in where Woods decides to play his college ball. Woods says he will not announce his decision until the Army All American Game.

With all the realignment mess going on it was believed at one point that Oklahoma would be moving to the Pac 12 where they would have been in Woods backyard quite a bit during the season. Instead, as you all know the Sooners will be staying in the Big 12. Does this have an effect on Woods?

"Them joining the Pac 12 or not doesn't make a difference to me," Woods stated.
