OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma continued it's Bricktown domination over Oklahoma State Thursday morning with a 4-2 smack around that may send Cowpoke ‘Head Hoss' Tom Holliday packing.
The Big 12 conference elimination game win marked the sixth straight OU win over the Pokes at ‘the Brick.' The game was a complete turn-around from the 11-2 disappointment vs A&M Wednesday. The Sooners next play the Texas - Texas A&M loser at 4:00 PM Friday.
OU got off to a fast start behind the pitching of sophomore David Purcey, who moves to 3-3 on the year. Purcey shut down the high powered Poke offense until he was relieved by fellow sophomore Jarod McAuliff, who picked up his ninth save on the year.
The Sooners scored one in the 1st when Eddie Cornejo plated Reggie Willis home for a 1-0 lead. The Pokes tied it in the 2nd on a Harmea home run, but only had 6 other hits.
In the 3rd, Matt Arkinson, a senior form Broken Arrow, reached on an error by O-State third baseman Josh Fields. Eddie Cornejo responded with yet another RBI and that's all the Sooner would need on this cool, overcast morning. However in the 4th Denver Kitch, (junior, Yukon), slammed a double and was followed by a home run shot by Andrew McQuire, (junior, Sherman, Texas), his forth of the year.
OSU tried to get something going in the 5th but could only muster one run.
The win moved the Sooners to a 3-1 record against the Pokes this year.
