Insight It Is

The Sooners are headed to Tempe, Ariz., to face the Iowa Hawkeyes at 9 p.m. CST Dec. 30, as they accepted an offer Sunday evening to play in the Bowl.

It will be a battle of the third best team in the Big 12, OU (9-3, 6-3 Big 12), and the fourth ranked team in the Big Ten Legends Division and sixth best team overall, the Hawkeyes (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten).

There were as many as three likely bowl options for the Sooners heading into Sunday, with the Cotton, Alamo and Insight all on the list.

Should the Kansas State Wildcats have been selected for the Sugar Bowl, the Cotton Bowl could have pulled the trigger on an OU-Arkansas matchup.

But when it became apparent Oklahoma State was getting left out of the National Championship and headed to the Fiesta Bowl and the Sugar Bowl picked Virginia Tech to face Michigan, that bumped the Wildcats down a spot to the Cotton Bowl.

Because of that, Baylor was chosen for the Alamo Bowl, and the Sooners went in the Big 12's fourth tie-in, the Insight.

Head coach Bob Stoops, as well as co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell and tight ends/tackles coach Bruce Kittle, will get to coach against their alma maters in the matchup.
