McAdams is a super offensive tackle prospect who gave the Sooners some great news over the weekend as he committed the Sooners, despite the fact he has yet to see the campus and has yet to talk to Coach Bob Stoops. The verbal commitment is the sixth toward Oklahoma's 2004 recruiting class.
The Leander, Texas OL says former teammate and current Sooner Paul Thompson helped him make decision.
"I have two friends in Paul Thompson (QB) and Kennan Johnson (student) from Leander who go to school at OU. Coach Stoops seemed like a great guy and I just took their word for it," said McAdams. "I talked to Coach Wright and Coach Wilson, and both seemed like great coaches and guys to deal with and told both of them that I wanted to be a Sooner.
"I am certainly trusting my instincts and the fact my two friends really like going to school at OU," McAdams continued. "I also wanted to go ahead and get my recruiting over with."
The Sooners' offense has really developed over the last couple of years into a balanced attack, and that is just fine with McAdams.
"OU runs shotgun a lot and that is all we run at Leander right now," said McAdams. "So, that had a little to do with it, because I seem to be standing up in my stance quite a bit at Leander. I love to run block more than pass block. We had the number one rushing tailback in the state last year and that was fun blocking for him."
McAdams started for the first time last year and graded out at 85 to 90 percent and he was third on the team in pancake blocks. McAdams can bench 300 pounds, squat 350 and he has 24-inch vertical jump. McAdams throws the shot (47 3/4) and discus (144) for the track team.
Texas A&M turned out to be the Sooners toughest competition, and at one time he also considered the Texas Longhorns.
"At one time I really considered UT, but I changed my mind after a while," said McAdams. "I just read some things about them that I really didn't like. I saw in the newspaper that some of their athletes got into trouble with drugs in their car. I have some friends around here that go to school there and they tell me that Texas is just a big party school. Plus, I have watched their football team over the last couple of years and they have good teams, but they just don't seem to have what it takes to win championships. OU seems to be a class school and they win championships and that is just too good of an opportunity to pass up."
McAdams will go to the OU camp on June 8 and 9.
