RECRUITING: Texas DE leaning OU's way?

Colleyville DE Alan Davis talks about his interest in OU after visiting the Sooners' summer camp

Davis is a tough, physical defensive lineman who doesn't let anybody get around him and certainly they can't run through him. Starting for the first time a year ago at defensive end, Davis made up for lost time collecting 83 tackles, 40 solo tackles, 10 hurries, four sacks and three fumbles caused on the season.

"Last year I played mostly at defensive tackle, and only moved out to defensive end for a couple of snaps," said Davis. "I am being recruited as a defensive end in college and that is where I will play this year on defense, but on offense I will play tight end. Davis can bench 315 poounds, squats 520 and he posted a 31-inch vertical jump at the NIKE camp at Texas A&M. Davis gave up basketball to concentrate on football and he has already been at the Texas and OU camps.

"I went to the OU camp on Tuesday, but I didn't practice," said Davis. "I just watched Coach Wright work with the defensive ends and then he was nice enough to show me around. I like OU a lot and they have shot to the top of my list. I like everything about their program. They have great facilities, great tradition and their players and coaches are great. I had a chance to sit down with Coach (Brent) Venables and Coach (Bob) Stoops for an hour-and-a-half and they answered every question that I had. They were great guys and real down to earth. If I didn't know they were OU football coaches you wouldn't be able to tell, because they were so humble. They were like just anybody off the street and that was shocking to me. All of there coaches were great people and they all are great family people and nice people to deal with."

Davis has five offers from LSU, Auburn, Baylor, OU, Baylor and Tulsa.

"My leader at this point would be OU," said Davis. "I am very close to committing to OU, but I want to go to a couple of other camps and I want to take my official visits first. I want to go to the LSU and Nebraska camps this summer. I really don't think anybody can beat OU and I might commit to them before I take any official visits."

Davis is fully qualified.
