OU QB prospect invited to Elite 11 QB camp

Jerry Bomar, father of Grand Prairie QB Rhett Bomar, talks about his sons' invitation to attend the prestigous Elite 11 Quarterback Camp in California

The Sooners top quarterback prospect — Grand Prairie, Texas Rhett Bomar — has been invited to participate in the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp held in California. Bomar was selected to the camp along with fellow Lone Star State quarterback's Bobby Reid of Galena Park Northshore High School and Kirby Freeman from Brownwood.

Rhett was not available for comment, but his father and coach — Jerry Bomar — said that Rhett is looking forward to the camp.

"Rhett is very excited and we are very excited for him to be selected to such a prestigious camp," said Coach Bomar. "We understand that it is quite an honor to be selected to the camp. It is not that Rhett is going to learn a whole lot at the camp, because they are not going to teach Rhett anymore than he already knows about throwing the football at this point, especially at a three-day camp. However, he will get a chance to compete, or maybe that isn't the right word because this isn't really a competition, but at least test his skills against some of the other best quarterbacks in the country. Rhett thrives on that kind of atmosphere and I am sure throwing with those guys will inspire Rhett to perform pretty well.

"Rhett always wants to be the best no matter what the competition is and this will be no different," Bomar continued. "I think the best thing about the camp is that he will get to talk some football with the other quarterbacks there along with several college quarterbacks like Eli Manning from Ole Miss. Really, the best thing about it is that it will be a great trip for Rhett and he will have a great time."

It appears that Rhett will try to take a look at Oklahoma State and Arkansas this week while taking one day at at each place. The Bomars hope to came back through Norman on Friday, but the Sooners coaches are already obligated to speak at a football clinic.

The Sooner coaches and the Bomar's talked early this week to try to set up a day next week where the Bomar's can come in an spend a full day with all the OU coaches on campus.
