Simon's a Sooner

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners have returned to their Florida ranks again for yet another signee.

Cornerback Gary Simon, out of Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., sent his national letter of intent to OU at 9:13 a.m. and officially became a Sooner at that point, selecting the Sooners over other suitors such as Iowa State and Arkansas.

He's one of three signees and four commits--tight end Laith Harlow is still pending due to his injury--from the state of Florida in this class.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound corner who visited OU a couple weeks ago, rejoins his former high school teammate and JUCO offensive guard Will Latu, who signed just minutes later.

He also serves to help shore up the depth in a secondary that was raked game after game for big plays and chunks of yardage.

He'll immediately find himself amongst a competition with guys like Demontre Hurst, Gabe Lynn, fellow signees Kass Everett and Zack Sanchez and others at the cornerback position.

Simon arrives as a three-star prospect and the 60th ranked cornerback in the 2012 class, but many believe he could be a major steal for the Crimson and Cream.
