Big 12 Slump Extends to Four

There's no other way to put it, the Sooners have struggled out of the gates in Big 12 play.

That continued again Friday night in this weekend's opener, as they fell 6-1 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech designated hitter Jamodrick McGruder led off the bottom of the first with a single and later scored on an RBI groundout.

The Red Raiders carried that lead into the fourth when catcher Bo Altobelli doubled and scored moments after that on an error by Sooner third baseman Garrett Carey.

They made it 3-0 the next inning, as McGruder recorded his second of three hits on the day, a leadoff triple, and advanced home on a wild pitch.

OU's lone run came in the top of the eighth; Carey reached on a throwing error and shortstop Caleb Bushyhead plated him with an RBI groundout to second.

But the Red Raiders added some insurance with three runs in the bottom half.

Center fielder Max White led OU in the contest, going 3-for-4.

The Sooners return to action at 5 p.m. Saturday for game two.
