Cody Reine and Evan Mistich recorded the game-tying and game-winning RBIs in OU's 4-3 Sunday afternoon victory over Kansas State, and the Sooners took the series two games to one. OU won the first game 5-1 before falling 8-7 in a back-and-forth game two. Pitcher Jordan John threw his first career complete game Friday evening in the victory, and first baseman Hunter Lockwood continued his swell at the plate with another homer Sunday. He currently leads the Big 12 Conference with eight round trippers and a .632 slugging percentage.
Pitcher Keilani Ricketts threw a perfect game Friday evening as part of a three-game sweep over the Kansas Jayhawks. The Sooners run-ruled the Jayhawks 8-0 in five innings in the series opener and came back with an 8-0 run-rule victory in six Saturday afternoon. They completed the sweep with a 6-2 win Sunday. It marks a stretch of 21 wins in OU's last 22 outings dating back to Feb. 29.
The Sooners opened up Big 12 play Friday evening with a 5-2 upset win over No. 13 Texas and followed it up with another Lone Star State victory Sunday against Texas A&M. They also defeated the Aggies 5-2. OU's Costin Paval and Dane Webb won the doubles point against UT by an 8-5 count and the 13th ranked duo defeated the A&M doubles team 9-8. Paval also won 6-2 and 6-3 in No. 1 singles Friday and followed up with a 2-0 win Sunday, completing 6-4 and 6-0 set victories.
OU's women didn't fare so well on the court over the weekend. They suffered defeats at the hands of Baylor and Texas Tech, both also on the road. The Bears defeated OU 4-3 and Tech won 5-2. Friday in No. 1 doubles, though, Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Richie defeated Baylor's No. 22 ranked duo. The Sooners' streak of seven straight doubles points came to an end, however, on Sunday as Huet and Richie lost and OU won only one of three doubles matches.
