RECRUITING: Top Texas DT wants to win

Dallas, Texas defensive tackle Franklin Okam talks about his summer future visits he has planned

FRANKLIN OKAM, DT, 6-5, 312, 4.91, DALLAS (LAKE HIGHLANDS HS), TEXAS:

JH: What camps have you gone to this summer and what unofficial visits have you taken?

FO: "The only two camps that I have been to have been are Texas A&M and Texas. Both camps were one-day camps and I came away really liking both places. The main deference in the two schools was how the defensive line coaches teach. At Texas A&M they played a lot attention to detail, while at Texas they give their defensive linemen a lot of freedom."

JH: What do you think of the fact that you are ranked as the top defensive tackle in Texas and one of the top five in the country?

FO: "I am shocked and surprised that I am ranked that high. I am honored that people think that I am that good and that I belong that high."

JH: What other schools do you hope to visit this summer?

FO: "I think I am going to travel up to Arkansas, OU and Oklahoma State."

JH: What are you thoughts on Oklahoma?

FO: "That is one of the schools that I have an interest in attending. I think a trip there will help me get some information that I need in making my decision. I guess you could say that the same goes for Arkansas and Oklahoma State."

JH: What are you looking for in a college?

FO: "I want to go to a good academic institution, one that I can get a degree from that will help me all my life. I want to go to a program that has a chance to win, because I want a chance to play for championships. I want to a program that has a good tradition, because I want to play for a program where football means something. I want to go to a program where I can have a chance to play early."

JH: Do you have a favorite?

FO: "No, I don't. I guess you could say that I am pretty wide open."
